What is on in Shymkent — touring shows, Ordabasy at home, plays and city celebrations in the country’s third-largest city.
Shymkent is the third city of Kazakhstan by population and the most underrated event market in it: a tour reaches Shymkent less often than Almaty or Astana, so every major date fills the room. The main venues are the Kazhymukan Munaitpasov Stadium, the city culture palaces and the halls attached to the large shopping and entertainment centres.
Theatre rests on the Zhumat Shanin regional theatre and the Russian drama stage. In summer the programme moves to the parks and open-air sites, which also host Nauryz, City Day and the family festivals.
