What is on sale in Almaty over the coming weeks — from the Palace of the Republic and Almaty Arena to theatres, museums and city festivals.
Almaty is still the country’s main concert city: a touring show almost always opens here, and in summer the stage moves outdoors, to the First President’s Park and the venues in the foothills. In winter everything goes back under a roof — the Palace of the Republic, the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace, Almaty Arena.
The classical programme rests on the Abai Opera and Ballet Theatre and on the drama houses: the Auezov, the Lermontov, ARTiSHOCK. The sporting calendar is Kairat at home in the Central Stadium plus hockey and basketball in the indoor arenas. Business events are a layer of their own — conferences and forums that fill a thousand-seat hall on a working day.
