Permanent collections, touring exhibitions and art fairs — what to see in Almaty on the exhibition side.
The anchors are the Kasteyev Museum of Arts, which holds the national collection, and the Central State Museum of Kazakhstan. Around them sits the gallery layer: private spaces showing contemporary Kazakh artists in short two- or three-week runs.
Shows here are rarely extended, and timed entry appears only for the larger touring exhibitions. Where an event has time slots, a fixed-time ticket saves you the queue at the door.
