Astana Opera, Astana Ballet and the drama houses in two languages — theatre in the capital.
Astana Opera is the city’s principal house: its own company, its own orchestra and a repertoire that carries both the world classics and Kazakh productions. Astana Ballet works with contemporary choreography and tours its own pieces abroad.
Drama is split between the Gorky, playing in Russian, and the Kuanyshbayev, playing in Kazakh. Buy for the opera house early — premieres and ballet nights sell out two to three weeks ahead.
